Summerhouse

Godalming, Surrey.

Perched on a cliff edge, overlooking the historic market town of Godalming, adjoining the land designated as Godalming Hillside; the challenge was to design a contemporary house with a new car parking platform replacing the existing 1960’s detached three storey private house whilst carefully considering the site’s impact on the Hillside and surrounding heritage features.

The first planning application consisted of replacing the existing property in its entirety and the second application formed an extensive remodelling of the property reflecting in a similar design and fashion to the first application; both of which received planning permission.

The dramatic high quality of design results create a light, ‘open plan’ contemporary designed home featuring stunning outlook views over the market town with given careful consideration to its surroundings and neighbouring buildings. The ‘open plan’ arrangement, expansive glass panels and double vaulted glazed entrance hall ensures natural light permeates through the home at all floor levels.

The positioning of principle rooms has been designed for occupants to enjoy the views over Godalming and beyond, which is achieved by designing a contemporary framed rectangular glass box along the full width of the rear elevation. The notable extensive degree of fenestration seeking to maximise the natural light provision, has created a stunning home with impressive exterior and interior features to delight any end users.
