Contemporary designed home in Peaslake, Surrey.
A contemporary designed luxury eco-home submerged within two acres of the English countryside in Surrey.
In the scenic village of Peaslake, a stunning site located outside of a settlement boundary area but within the Surrey Hills Green Belt. Previously, the site contained a commercial landscape business with related offices and greenhouses.
Our ‘Project Brief’ was to develop further the extant planning consent for a detached contemporary designed house with amendments. These included to re-position the proposed detached garage below ground and attach it to the new home. Changes to the interior layout and exterior materials to create a luxury, low-energy detached home achieving an Energy ‘A’ Rating status.
The contemporary design for the new vast home sits in part sunken into the ground. As a result, the re-design allows the home to be sympathetic to the immediate and local surroundings with minimal visual impact. Coupled with the use of bold exterior materials surprisingly creates an opposite visual effect. Indeed, the home appears softer against the adjacent mature trees and meadow landscaping.
‘Fabric First’ Approach
Skyridge has been built using innovative constructional methods and elements as part of a ‘Fabric First’ approach. This is our approach to construction in achieving low energy targets. We have formed the primary structure of the house using Amvic Insulating Concrete Formwork (ICF).
ICF is based on hollow lightweight blocks that lock together, to provide a formwork system into which concrete is poured. They make the blocks from expanded polystyrene panels fixed together with plastic webs (reducing thermal bridging) to create a formwork. Once braced, they pour concrete into the forms enabling fast construction one storey at a time. The result is a super-insulated monolithic solid concrete structure. ICF construction is an ideal build method to achieve the two key requirements for a low energy building envelope. These are the thermal efficiency and equally of importance but sometimes less obvious the requirement of air-tightness.
Through our design approach, of adopting modern methods of construction and materials on a fabric first approach. Along with using the latest in renewable energy generation and storage. Has meant delivering a house achieving an ‘A’ rating on its Energy Performance Certificate.
Smart Home Technology…
At the heart of the home’s control room is a Loxone Smart Home Automation System providing unparalleled levels of intelligently-automated comfort and control for lighting, heating and ventilation.
